Tears will be shed. Crimson Tears is an excellent Action-RPG that will ultimately go down in history as a dark horse game. It really busts my junk to have to say this, but most people don't even know this game exists. And it's a shame, too- Crimson Tears is an excellent example of dungeon crawling done right.
I've seen the future of Tokyo - it's cel-shaded and it's boring.Set in Tokyo, year 2049, Crimson Tears sends players on the epic journey of three inhuman 'biological war weapons.' Caught up in a mystery that surrounds the destruction of their home city, the trio must battle hordes of enemies and maneuver through maze like environments that powered by a cel-shaded 3D engine and a fast-paced combat mechanic. Additional features include: three playable characters with variable abilities and weapon proficiencies, an RPG-like upgrade system that allows players to improve attributes and special maneuvers, branching combat trees that offer more than a hundred possible attacks, and an easy-to-use hub system for easy character manageability. PS2 Reviews Jul 21, 2004The PS2 crowd loved cel-shaded racing with Auto Modellista (well, for the first eight or nine seconds) and couldn't get enough of cel-shaded first-person shooting in XIII (ummm, sort of).
It was only natural that we'd get a chance to whack away in a cel-shaded action title. Capcom's Crimson Tears is a classic dungeon crawl with a couple of twists. It's set in futuristic Tokyo and it's cel-shaded. Unfortunately, those two nifty wrinkles aren't enough to make up for the game's otherwise lackluster play. PS2 Previews Jun 9, 2004First announced at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom's Crimson Tears is rapidly speeding toward completion. Long-time PlayStation fans will be interested to know that it's being developed by Dream Factory, the hit-or-miss dev house behind critical hits like the Tobal series and duds like The Bouncer and Kakuto Chojin.
Which way will the see-saw of quality tip this time? Based on two hours I spent with the current build, I'd say it's leaning more toward the positive than the negative. Automatic dungeon creation system increases replay value as layouts, enemies, and items change each time through; central home base allows players to switch characters, exchange items, view various data and more; strategic combinations of martial arts attacks and weapon-based combat must be used in order to defeat enemies; customizable weapons andmartial arts moves; wide range of weapons including swords, fightinggloves, bazookas, flame throwers and more; collect items and weapons as you explore dungeons and defeat enemies.
Contents.Plot The game is set in in the year 2049 and revolves around three characters whose home has been destroyed. As seen on the game's front cover, this trio seems; however, they are actually bio-engineered weapons developed by a company named A.R.M.A. Called 'mutanoids'.Gameplay The game plays similarly to many except that the combat is in real-time. Unlike in most games, the levels are completely flat. A notable feature of Crimson Tears is that the levels are generated on the fly using templates, as opposed to a predefined game worlds that are the same every time.Reception ReceptionAggregate scoreAggregatorScore63/100Review scoresPublicationScoreC−6/107/1029/405/10C−6.8/10GameZone7.6/107.1/10The game received 'mixed' reviews according to video game.
